GATEWAY HUB
Livingstone (Victoria Falls)
Livingstone is located on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, one of the world’s most powerful waterfalls. The spectacular falls are approximately 1.6 kilometers wide, with the highest point reaching 108 meters. Victoria Falls was discovered in 1855 by the Scottish missionary David Livingstone, who had heard of “Mosi-oa-Tunya” – “the smoke that thunders” – from local tribes. Livingstone made history as the first European to witness this overwhelming natural phenomenon and named the falls after Queen Victoria of Britain. The border between Zimbabwe and Zambia runs roughly through the middle of the falls, meaning the western part is in Zimbabwe and the eastern part in Zambia. Victoria Falls was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1989 and today remains one of Africa’s most visited attractions.

National park
Liuwa Plains
Liuwa Plains National Park is a 3,369 km² national park located in Zambia’s Western Province. “Liuwa” means “plain” in the local Liuwa language. These plains originally served as hunting grounds for Lubosi Lewanika, the king (or paramount chief) of the Lozi people. The area was designated as a protected zone by Lubosi Lewanika in the early 1880s and later became a national park in 1972 when the Zambian government assumed management.
The park’s grassy savannah is home to a large number of predators, including cheetahs, spotted hyenas and lions. It also supports vast populations of other mammals, such as 30,000 to 40,000 blue wildebeest, whose annual migration is the second largest in Africa. Additionally, over 300 bird species have been observed in the park.
King Lewanika Lodge
King Lewanika Lodge may well be Zambia’s most exclusive hideaway. Far beyond mobile phone coverage and a 2.5-hour jeep ride from the nearest airport, the journey takes you straight through the breathtaking Liuwa Plain National Park to King Lewanika Lodge— the park’s only permanent lodge. Named after the Lozi king Lewanika, the lodge exudes the spirit of classic tented safari, seamlessly blended with a stylish, modern design that features clean lines, natural hues, and African-inspired décor.
The lodge consists of six elegant, spacious tented suites, each offering complete privacy. The suites are arranged to maximize the views from every angle, with panoramic vistas of the waterhole and vast plains, even from the bathrooms. Each tent is equipped with expansive wooden decks, with a sunken lounge terrace directly overlooking the plains. The interior, with its leather, cotton, and canvas touches, evokes the charm of a 1930s safari, but the comfort is of the highest modern standards, with the entire lodge powered by solar energy.
The communal areas include a dining room, stylish lounge, well-stocked bar, and a pool, all connected in an open-plan layout, offering breathtaking views from an elevated deck. In addition to high-quality day and night safaris in open vehicles, professional guides also offer walking and canoe safaris (season permitting). Liuwa Plain is home to the world’s second-largest wildebeest migration, and the lodge offers unique wildlife experiences, including hyena clans of up to 50 individuals.
Children aged five and older are welcome at King Lewanika Lodge.
