Benguerra Island in Mozambique is the second-largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago. The island covers approximately 55 km² (11 km long by 5.5 km wide) and is located 14 km off the coast. Benguerra Island features forests, savannas, freshwater lakes, and wetlands, creating a diverse ecosystem that supports a wide variety of flora and fauna. Freshwater crocodiles can be found in all three lakes on the island. Home to around 140 bird species, Benguerra Island was declared a national park in 1971.

Machangulo Peninsula, located in the southernmost part of Mozambique, lies next to Inhaca Island, across from Maputo Bay.
