Unforgettable Family Safaris

Experience the magic of family safaris—where adventure, wildlife, and quality time come together to create lifelong memories for all ages

FAMILY SAFARI HIGHLIGHTS

Share unforgettable moments with your family as you encounter some of the world’s most majestic animals

Let the kids enjoy a tailored and unique safari experience—guided by their own specially trained expert

Unwind at your premium lodge with a world-class wine cellar, gourmet dining, and a spa—perfect after a day of family adventure

One of the most common questions we receive is whether it’s possible to go on safari with children. Our answer is a resounding yes—it’s absolutely wonderful to experience and enjoy a safari together as a family, regardless of your children’s ages. In fact, we dare to say that there’s something uniquely magical about a safari that brings families closer together, creating shared memories that will last a lifetime. However, it’s essential that the trip is tailored to your family’s specific needs and preferences.

The destinations we recommend below offer exceptional family safaris with lodges specifically designed to cater to children. Some lodges are particularly child-friendly, offering babysitting services, safari programs for children, and kid-friendly menus. Most safari lodges, however, have a minimum age requirement of six years for children to join jeep safaris. That said, at many lodges, you can opt for a private safari jeep at an additional cost, allowing you to bring even the youngest members of your family—those under six years old. The private jeep comes with its own guide and tracker, making it an ideal solution for families of all ages.

Many lodges are thoughtfully designed with families in mind, offering accommodations in spacious family rooms. One important consideration is that some safari destinations are in malaria-affected areas. Below, you’ll find details on regions with malaria, low-risk malaria zones, and completely malaria-free options.

National Park

Masai Mara National Park

Located in southwestern Kenya, 270 kilometers from Nairobi, Masai Mara National Park spans 1,510 square kilometers. While not the largest reserve in Kenya, it is undoubtedly the most iconic. Named after the Maasai people and the Mara River that runs through the park, Masai Mara borders the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the south.

Known for its remarkable lion population and the annual Great Migration, this park hosts nearly a million wildebeest that cross into its territory between July and September. Masai Mara is home to the “Big 5”—elephant, African buffalo, lion, leopard, and the critically endangered black rhinoceros—as well as giraffes, gazelles, baboons, and over 450 bird species. Walking safaris with Maasai guides add an intimate touch to the experience, while the lodges provide diverse safari options.

&Beyond Bateleur Camp

Set in a private concession in southwestern Masai Mara, &Beyond Bateleur Camp offers an exclusive safari experience with abundant wildlife and fewer crowds. The camp consists of two intimate tented villages, each with nine luxury tented suites. These 18 suites, along with the reception and lounge areas, exude vintage elegance with leather armchairs, black-and-white photography, Maasai spears, and antiques. Inspired by Out of Africa, this camp radiates old-world charm.

Each suite features a private butler who also serves as a personal concierge. The suites include a furnished veranda overlooking the savannah, where zebras, giraffes, elephants, and antelopes roam. Guests can enjoy an infinity pool, a well-stocked gin bar, a safari shop, a spa, and a gym. Gourmet meals are served under the stars, by the fire, or in the elegantly appointed dining area. Nearby, specially prepared vantage points offer prime views of the Great Migration.

The interiors are elegantly modern with vibrant Maasai-inspired accents. On the expansive veranda, you can savor a drink while soaking in the unparalleled scenery.

National park

Etosha National Park, Namibia

Etosha National Park is located in northern Namibia and is mostly made up of a dry lakebed, a salt pan. The park was established in 1907 and is the most popular destination in Namibia for spotting a wide variety of wildlife. Etosha is home to four of the Big 5: leopard, elephant, rhino, and lion. The African buffalo is absent due to the lack of water sources. The park was created to allow visitors to embark on self-drive safaris, and it is easy to explore the park independently. However, we recommend booking a guided safari through one of the nearby lodges for a more enriched experience. Contact us for more details.

Little Ongava

Little Ongava is an elegant retreat perched atop a hill, offering a magical view of the expansive Ongava Game Reserve, which spans 30,000 hectares. To the north, it borders the vast Etosha National Park. This intimate, secluded lodge is one of Namibia’s most exclusive, with only three lavish suites. Each spacious suite is beautifully furnished with natural materials in earthy tones, equipped with every modern comfort imaginable. “Kirkmans safari, a guaranteed 5-star experience, undoubtedly the best stay of the entire vacation. The staff was amazing, the houses we stayed in were both charming and spotless, the food was wonderful, and our guided safari tours in the mornings and evenings were absolutely fantastic. Wow! Stunning nature and a guide (Safari was his name) who was both highly knowledgeable about the animals and plants and had the remarkable ability to remember all our names and our individual preferences, which we mentioned on day one and continued to adjust and add to throughout the trip. The tracker (Victor) was also absolutely wonderful, and our personal butler (Friday) was an amazing guy. The managers and the rest of the staff were also fantastic and very accommodating. We all enjoyed ourselves to the fullest, and I can recommend Kirkmans Lodge to anyone considering a safari trip.”

READ WHAT OTHERS THINK ABOUT LONDOLOZI TREE CAMP

“We were given such a warm and friendly welcome and were well taken care of. Despite arriving at around three in the afternoon, they served us a delicious lunch to ensure we were ready to join the evening safari at 4 PM. Our ranger, Sean, and our tracker, Rob, who were our guides, were absolutely outstanding at their jobs. Even though there wasn’t an abundance of animals—except for impalas—we still managed, after much driving and searching, to suddenly come across rhinos, hippos, giraffes, elephants, lions, leopards, or even cheetahs up close. After every drive, we returned with incredible experiences and great photos on our phones. Of course, we hoped to see the Big Five before heading home, but the large herd of buffalo had left the area and hadn’t been seen for two weeks. However, there were a few lone buffalo left behind, unable to keep up with the main herd, but finding them proved extremely difficult. After a lot of searching, we had to give up. And then something truly remarkable happened. While we were packing and getting ready for our journey home, a lone buffalo strolled past outside the hotel. Incredible! If we ever get the chance to go on another safari before we get too old, we will definitely return to Londolozi!”
